Wander down towards Marina Grande, a working fishing harbour with colourful boats and some of the best seafood restaurants in town, or Marina Piccola, where the ferries depart for Capri and the Amalfi Coast. We'd always recommend a stroll along Corso Italia too, Sorrento's main shopping street, particularly in the early evening when it's at its liveliest. Sorrento also makes a brilliant base for exploring further afield, with Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast and Capri all within easy day-trip distance.
The food scene is just as much a highlight as the views – freshly caught seafood is everywhere, often served simply with just a squeeze of lemon, while gnocchi alla Sorrentina, baked in a rich tomato sauce with melted mozzarella, is a local classic worth seeking out. Don't leave without trying local limoncello, made using lemons grown in the groves covering the hillsides. Whether you're relaxing on a clifftop terrace, hopping over to Capri for the day, or simply enjoying the slower pace of life, you can enjoy la dolce vita in Sorrento.
