Food & drink in Paris

When you’re not lured in by the aromas of freshly baked baguettes, sweet cinnamon filled pastries will beg you to indulge. In fact, Boulangerie Brun bakery won the 2017 competition for Paris’ tastiest baguette. Ratatouille is another delicacy made up of eggplant, onions, peppers, tomatoes and seasoned in garlic before stewed to perfection – we’d suggest restaurant Le P’tit Troquet for an authentic portion of this French speciality. L’Oiseau Blanc is one of the most sought-after eateries due to its panoramic views of the city and rooftop dining. Restaurant 58 Tour Eiffel is based where the name suggests, on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower and as well as its delicious cuisine, it’s said to be one of the most romantic spots. The drinking scene in this capital is one of the best in Europe and the most diverse. For something unique, head to the Ice Kube bar where shots of absinthe will be served in frozen glasses. Over at the Little Red Door the cocktail list contains Bloody Marys and White Ladys.

Things to do in Paris

There’s a never-ending list of attractions in Paris from the secret rooftop in Galeries Lafayette to 360-degree sights from Montparnasse Tower and burlesque performances at the Moulin Rouge. There are guided tours available, or you can take on the capital at your own pace – either way you’re bound to fall head-over-heels.

Explore the Louvre: As the biggest museum in the world, there are 380,000 masterpieces to witness. It’s no surprise it is one of Paris’ most visited attractions. Holidaymakers from across the globe flock to witness Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, whose identity remains a mystery to this day. More than just paintings, find Egyptian antiques and sculptures alongside Roman and Greek remains. There’s free admission on the first Saturday of the month and each season enjoys a temporary exhibition and pop-up events.

Climb the 387 steps at Notre-Dame Cathedral: Dominating the heart of the city and built in 1163, it’s one of the largest religious buildings in the world. It’s a fine example of French Gothic architecture and contains some of the most important relics of the Catholic church existence. The cathedral’s iconic twin towers are 226-feet in height and provide dramatic views of the city from the top. The vivid stained glass windows constructed in 1200 will inspire you from the moment you step inside. Disney fans will also recognise this landmark from its stint in The Hunchback of Notre Dame!
