For all serious foodies, sobrasada is a must-try in Majorca. This spreadable cured sausage is spicy and versatile – you’ll find it on Majorcan flatbread, in croquettes, or even as part of tapas, drizzled with honey. Try this island delicacy with a glass of Manto Negro, a popular red wine made in Binissalem. If you prefer things meat-free, trampo should be high on your list. This simple salad is made with tomatoes, onions, green pepper, olive oil and salt. Commonly served on coca – a Majorcan bread – trampo is ideal for a light alfresco lunch. Pair your dish with a chilled white wine – Prensal Blanc is native to the island. When it comes to after-dinner treats, Majorca delivers the goods. Be sure to try ensaimada, a sweet pastry filled with cream and chocolate, found in bakeries all over Majorca. While you’re at it, grab a couple of rubiols – delicious crescent-shaped pastries filled with sweet pumpkin or homemade jam.

Playa d’Alcudia is a stunning stretch of ivory-white sand on the north coast. Located in the popular resort town of Alcudia, the beach is ideal for families – this Blue Flag-awarded beauty comes with shallow water and all the facilities you could need for an afternoon by the ocean. Considered Majorca’s best beach town, Porto Cristo is a gem on the east coast. You’ll find fine, golden sand, clear azure water and the convenience of shops and restaurants just yards away. A number of boat trips leave from Porto Cristo, so why not combine your day out at the beach with a snorkelling tour?

One of many idyllic ‘calas’ on Majorca’s east coast, Cala Mesquida is extra-special. The soft golden sand and bright blue water make this cove a captivating place to spend the day. Behind the beach, there’s a wooden walkway that winds its way through sand dunes and along the cliffside for unbeatable high-up views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Train to Soller, Palma: Hop aboard a traditional wooden train in Palma, for a journey across bridges and through tunnels to the charming town of Soller. Take your time as you wander through the town square and pay a visit to the art museum, showcasing works by Picasso and Warhol. From Soller, you can take a tram to Port de Soller, passing citrus groves along the way.

The Cathedral of Majorca, Palma: Majorca’s capital, Palma is worth a visit in its own right. Explore the streets of Old City, a maze of museums and homes and pay a visit to the Arab Baths, one of the few remaining symbols of the city’s Moorish past. The main draw, though, is the cathedral, a magnificent 120m-long structure overlooking the harbour. Marvel at the vast stained glass windows, ornate frescoes, and 13th century mausoleum.

Katmandu Park, Magaluf: For a fun-filled family day out, look no further than Katmandu Park in Magaluf. This exciting theme park has something for everyone, from water slides and bucket splashers to 4D cinema, putting you in the heart of the action. Tackle the mazes and interactive games at Upside Down House, and have a blast shooting zombies at XD Theatre!

Formentor Cape, Formentor: The stunning Formentor Cape is a highlight of any Majorcan holiday. Wind your way around heart-stopping bends, before reaching the iconic lighthouse at the island’s northernmost point. The journey to the top comes with some pretty steep drop-offs – if you don’t fancy it, you can always see the cape on a boat tour, starting at nearby Puerto de Pollensa.

The Caves of Drach, Porto Cristo: Home to one of the biggest underground lakes in the world, adventure lovers will be in their element at the Caves of Drach. The tour takes you through the caves on a rowing boat, letting you see the ancient stalactites and captivating rock formations close-up. There’s even a classical music concert on the water – an enchanting holiday experience.

Serra de Tramuntana Mountains, West Coast: Rambling through the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range is unforgettable. With multiple trails, everyone gets to enjoy the magnificent scenery, whether you’re a family with little ones, or a seasoned hiker after a challenge. For an easy introduction, take the picturesque route from the village of Deia down to the ocean at Cala Deia – a 1.5 hour walk with exceptional views.
