Food & drink in Qawra

Known for its varied culinary offerings, don’t be surprised if you find influences from Sicily and North Africa among Malta’s menus. Classic dishes include timpana, a pasta dish covered in a bolognese-like sauce and cooked in pastry as well as fenek, a rabbit-based stew. And don’t forget to wash it down with the native beer Cisk lager. You’ve got a good choice of restaurants to choose from here, and if you want greater options you can always head up the coast to Bugibba. Duo Restaurant is one of those places you visit more than once, it may not be the cheapest but its delectable seafood dishes include smoked salmon and melt-in-the-mouth sea bass. International eateries are also found here with spots like Peking serving tasty Chinese options as well as Gate of India whose spice-infused curries are so good you’ll be taking home your leftovers in a doggy bag. Bars like Cheeky Monkey are a must-visit during happy hour with its two for one cocktails.

Beautiful beaches in Qawra

Qawra isn’t known for its sandy beaches, instead its rocky coastline is dotted with lidos. Qawra Point may only be small in size, but its waters are ideal for swimming and snorkelling. With marine life hiding beneath its rocks parrotfish are among the sea creatures spotted here. If you’d prefer to spend your beach days lazing on idyllic shores, a short car journey will take you to Mellieha Bay, the country’s largest stretch at 800 metres long. Awarded a Blue Flag due to the quality of its waters with no steep drop-offs, it’s a great pick for families with little ones. What’s more, it’s home to a good selection of watersports whether you’re looking for bouncing banana boat rides or kayaking adventures.

Qawra is a great crowd-pleaser with activities to suit all holiday styles. Its coast and lidos invite you to relax, while its clear waters were made for snorkelling ventures and fast-paced watersports. Enjoy food from all over the world from its many restaurants or hop on over to nearby Bugibba and sample a livelier nightlife scene. For more in-resort attractions, it’s also home to a watch tower, classic car museum and aquarium.

After-dark dancing in Bugibba: Qawra doesn’t have a great deal going on in terms of partying, apart from the popular Cafe Del Mar, which is known for its sophisticated vibes. Also part of St Paul’s Bay and a 15-minute walk from Qawra, Bugibba comes alive as soon as the sun goes down. Karaoke venues encourage sing along sessions, discotheques come equipped with spacious dancefloors and upbeat bars are known for their fun atmospheres, not to mention you’ll also find a seafront casino. The Irish pub O’Reilly’s will win you over with its friendly vibes and good-sized cocktails, as well as Queen Victoria Pub with its karaoke sessions. As for big events, Amazonia Club is where you can catch Malta’s annual dance festival LoveSexy.

Visit the Classic Car Museum: If you’re a lover of all things car-related, then this museum will be right up your street. Restored to their original condition, these vintage vehicles look like they have come from a showroom. T-Birds, Spitfires and Fiats are just come of the automobiles on display. Taking you as far back as the 1940s, the cars are surrounded by era-specific items. You’ll also find a great deal of information gracing its walls for those who want to learn everything there is to know about these timeless models.
