Beautiful beaches in Kos Town

Luckily for holidaymakers, Kos Town is within close proximity to a number of sand spots. The main stretch just off the marina is backed by tavernas, beach clubs and boutiques, making it extremely popular with families. Lambi is another favourite, beloved for its crystal clear waters and hidden coves, it’s also within walking distance to the centre but away from the hustle and bustle. Agios Fokas is one for Instagram, dominated by rugged landscapes, dotted with plush loungers and surrounded by turquoise Aegean Sea – this flawless coast is worth the wander. There’s a cosy cocktail spot perched on the sand, where waiters will serve you drinks until sundown. Head a little further afield, roughly three miles from Kos Town, and find Therma Beach, also known as ‘Bubble Beach’ for its pools of healing waters. These volcanic heated springs are a major tourist attraction, but you can also take advantage of its shoreline with unique rock formations and calm waves enticing you in.

It also goes by the name of ‘Freedom Square’ and is adored for its open-air cafes surrounded by grand architecture including Defterdar Mosque and Kos Archaeological Museum. Here you can explore impressive mosaics, powerful artwork and time-honoured statues dating back to the Hellenistic era. You’re also encouraged to get lost down its narrow cobbles in order to encounter true history and off-the-beaten-track landmarks.

Head on a bar crawl: Who said Kos Town was just for culture? Famed for its exciting nightlife, plan an evening you’ll never forget. Daikon and Nafklirou are the go-to streets for strobe light filled clubs, themed pubs and quirky bars. Here you’ll be welcomed with shots, presented happy hour cocktails and served light bites or nibbles. Music types vary from venue to venue, but tunes from the early noughties, 90s and electro beats are usually the theme. Hammam Bar is not one to be missed, once a former Turkish bath it’s now decorated beautifully with scatter cushions, shisha pipes and plays host to major DJs. Mylos Beach Bar is another must, its outdoor drinking scene sets the mood and its range of carefully crafted cocktails will go down a treat.
