Food & drink in Puerto de la Cruz

Taking inspiration from traditional Spanish food, you’ll find an array of delicacies in Puerto de la Cruz. Seafood is particularly flavourful and fresh in Tenerife, with parrot fish being a popular choice among locals. Known as vieja, the fish is typically served with delicious salty potatoes called papas arrugadas. If vieja isn’t to your taste, try cherne – or grouper, in English. This meaty white fish has fewer bones and is often compared to cod. If you don’t fancy seafood, try carne con papas. Consisting of beef and potatoes in a rich, savoury sauce, this is the perfect meal for those who crave something hearty. This sauce is commonly made from a selection of herbs and spices, as well as tomatoes, onions, carrots and white wine.

Beautiful beaches in Puerto de la Cruz

Featuring striking black volcanic sand framed by vibrant exotic plants, Playa Jardin is a beach like no other. In fact, it’s one of the most popular in Tenerife due to its naturally unique appearance. Despite its unusual combination of black sand and greenery, it offers the same crystal clear water that has helped Tenerife make a name for itself. Speaking of the sea, it’s the perfect temperature for a quick dip, helping you cool down after soaking up the welcome sun. While Playa Jardin is one of the most popular beaches, Playa El Bollullo has a lot to offer too. It’s much quieter and smaller than Playa Jardin, yet provides the most fantastic view of the turquoise ocean. Not only that, but there are beach bars nearby should you want lunch by the sea. Those with limited mobility may find it difficult to access, however, due to the number of stairs you have to take to get there.
