Puerto del Carmen holidays

With an abundance of bars and restaurants, you’ll never go hungry in Puerto del Carmen. Seafood is a particular speciality in the Canary Islands, especially sea bream, parrotfish and stone bass. Dishes are typically served with plenty of garlic and papas arrugadas, locally grown potatoes boiled in salted water. If you aren’t a fan of fish, it’s worth sampling this potato dish with another meat or even on their own with a pepper garlic sauce known as mojo.

There are three beaches in Puerto del Carmen, all offering an incredible view and thrilling activities. These white sand beaches are framed by rugged volcanic rock and lofty palm trees, standing tall as if to guard the paradise within their reach. Located close to the dynamic Las Playas avenue, Playa Grande is by far the most popular beach in Puerto del Carmen. With an abundance of bars, restaurants and shops within walking distance, it’s the best beach in terms of convenience. Relax in the sun before hiring out a pedalo, jet ski or snorkel to make the most of this stunning destination.

If you’re looking for a more secluded spot, head to Playa Chica. Located close to the older town, it’s just as scenic as Playa Grande but is much smaller and isn’t quite as busy. Don’t worry though, there’s still plenty to do once you’re tired of sunbathing. The glistening water is the perfect temperature for snorkelling, swimming and diving. Last but certainly not least is Playa Pocillos, which is particularly popular among surfers. With a laid back vibe, plenty of amenities nearby and a beautiful seafront, this beach is ideal for families.

It may have started out as a discreet fishing town but Puerto del Carmen is now a lively resort packed full of fun.

Old Town Harbour: With a long history as a fishing village, Puerto del Carmen’s Old Town Harbour is quaint and charming. The perfect spot to stop and have a drink under the sun, taking a few minutes to watch as the boats peacefully bob on the water. Not only is this a relaxing sight but you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of the marine life below the water. Head over in the evening to watch the sunset over the mountains in the background. The sight of the sky glowing purple and orange over the rocky cliffs is sure to take your breath away.

Day trip to Arrecife: Just 30 minutes from Puerto del Carmen via car, Arrecife is Lanzarote’s energetic capital. Take a day trip to this city to explore more of what Lanzarote has to offer. As the capital, Arrecife has an energetic atmosphere mixed with an intriguing history, such as the Castillo de San Gabriel. This castle was built to fight off pirate attacks and is a fascinating place. After you’ve explored the past, enjoy Arrecife’s modern centre that’s packed with shops and bars.
