Food & drink in Menorca

You’ll find fresh seafood in abundance in Menorca, with the catch of the day proudly displayed on every harbourside chalkboard. One of our favourite dishes is caldereta de pisco, a flavourful seafood soup with clams, mussels and shrimp. Or you can ask for the lobster version – caldereta de langosta – perfect with a chilled glass of Merluzo Blanco. If you’re more inclined to meat, sobrasada is a must-try on your Menorca holiday. This unique sausage is made with minced pork, paprika and spices, then cured. The result is a spreadable paste, delicious on crusty bread, or as part of a tapas platter. When it comes to sweet treats, head to your nearest pasteleria (bakery) where you’ll find an appetising display of cakes, pastries and biscuits. Be sure to try an ensaimada or two – all ages love these flaky pastries topped with sugar and vanilla powder.

Best beaches in Menorca

On the south coast, Cala en Porter is one of Menorca’s top family-friendly beaches. Here, you’ll discover A beautiful bay set below steep cliffs, with soft sand and exceptionally clear water. The beach shelves gently into the water, making it ideal for little ones, and there are plenty of facilities on hand, including changing rooms and beach cafes.nAlso on the south coast, Son Bou is another beach tailor-made for families. At 2.5km-long, there’s plenty of space to play, and the water stays shallow for a good distance out. Like Cala en Porter, the ocean is perfectly clear – just don’t forget the snorkel! For a beach with a bit of rugged seclusion, make a day of it at Cala Turqueta. Accessed via a 10-minute walk through a pine forest, you won’t find any facilities at this gem in the southwest, but you will discover a picture perfect cove of white sand and turquoise water. Grab a spot under the trees, and enjoy.

Fun days out in Menorca

Snorkelling: With amazingly clear water everywhere you look, Menorca is perfect for snorkelling. The beaches and coves on the north coast are some of the best, where much of the area is dedicated to a marine reserve. Favourites include Cala Morell, home to starfish and molluscs, and Cala Fornells, where – if you’re lucky – you’ll spot a brightly-coloured wrasse.

Water park: Who doesn’t love a water park? And in Menorca, you’ve got some top parks to choose from, wherever you find yourself on the island. One of the best is Aquarock Waterpark, an all-ages park in Cala‘n Bosch. Thrill-seekers will love the Black Hole and Kamikaze slides, while little ones will have a blast at the splash park and wave pool.

Horse riding: A horse riding tour is a fun afternoon out, whether you’re a beginner or experienced rider. Your experienced instructor will lead you on the Cami de Cavalls (‘horse path’) trail along the captivating Menorcan coastline. Your exciting tour will even take in a walk on the beach, where you’ll get to enter the water with your four legged friend.

Thrilling adventures in Menorca

Paragliding: If you’ve ever wanted to fly like a bird, hundreds of metres above sea level – now’s your chance! On a tandem paragliding ride, you’ll fly with a top instructor from either Monte Toro, for panoramic views of the island, or from the cliffs in Son Bou for a flight over the ocean. It’s an unforgettable experience – you can even get the whole thing filmed to show friends back home.

Quad bikes: A quad bike tour is an exciting way to see Menorca’s rugged interior. From your starting point in Ciutadella, you’ll cross over fields and through forests before heading towards the coast. Here, you’ll discover some of Menorca’s most beautiful unspoiled bays and beaches. There’s room for two, so grab a friend and rev up!

Scuba diving: With gin-clear waters and colourful marine life, Menorca is perfect for scuba diving. Your underwater adventure begins at Fornells, part of the Northern Marine Reserve. After some expert tuition, it’s time for your first dive, where you’ll head out on a rib to spot dolphins, pilot whales, eagle rays – and much more.
