Panoramic view of Riga in Latvia

Latvia holidays

Located on the border with Russia in Eastern Europe, Latvia is a former Soviet republic which became fully independent in 1991 and has slowly seen an increase in the number of visitors due to the introduction of a number of airlines now flying to the region. Most visitors to Latvia visit the ancient capital of Riga which was named European capital of culture 2014 and is home to the collection of art nouveau buildings, the dome cathedral and many music festivals throughout the summer months. With its capital sitting very close to the Baltic Sea, Latvia has the busiest port in the Baltic States and allows visitors to see a different part to the country when going in the summer months as its home to 500k of coastline with some lovely beaches such as the blue flag resort of Jurmala City.
